Teardrop Earrings

We love the subtle symbolism of teardrop earrings—the teardrop is a big deal in tattoo art, and it’s also abundant in jewelry design, evoking actual tears, but also suggesting the shape of a pear, the luscious fruit that’s also a symbol of sweetness, inner peace, and affection.

Collaboration teardrop shape in our jewelry.

Teardrop earrings make for a unique purchase; for example, teardrop-shaped gemstones, a Nina Nguyen signature, are less expected than round gemstones, which are more traditional. Our gold and silver jewelry items embrace the teardrop shape in a number of ways, including petal-inspired, simple stud teardrop earrings and ring options that surround the teardrop stone in gold or silver bezels. We also have stackable open cuff bracelets in silver or gold that are finished with bezel-set, teardrop gemstone end caps.

Mix & Match teardrop earrings

Our wildly popular signature mix-and-match earring charms are designed with elongated teardrop-shaped gems with diamond bails that are designed to dangle from any of our many gold or silver hoop options—with these dangle teardrop earrings we like to invert the shape so that the teardrop’s tip points down instead of up. It makes the look a little less sweet and a lot more fun and fashionable.

We also have our best-selling Angel Wing earring charms made of gold, sterling silver, or blackened silver, which we hand-engraved to give the teardrop, wing-like silhouettes a feathered texture, and delicately sprinkle them with an array of gemstones, from diamonds to moonstones and tourmalines.

Nina Nguyen

Meet Nina Nguyen (Wynn)

Nina Nguyen (Wynn), a local Colorado designer, grew up in Central Vietnam surrounded by a family of jewelers and goldsmiths. Her mother’s trading post was where locals came to sell their gold, panned from the Buon Ma Thuot River, which was then refined and used to create gorgeous pieces by Nina’s uncle.

In the late 1980s, her family’s jewelry business was confiscated, and her father was arrested and vanished for several years. With the help of family, Nina’s single mother took her and her five siblings on a journey to migrate to America seeking a better life. After a one year stay as a refugee in the Philippines, Nina’s family was eventually relocated to the Tampa Bay area where she started her life in the US. At the age of 12 she learned very quickly to adapt.

Years later, while on break from her finance career, Nina backpacked through India for ten weeks. She was mesmerized by the raw gemstones she came across - they were vibrant, colorful, and expertly faceted to catch light from every angle. Upon returning from her trip, Nina felt inspired to return to her roots and try her hand at designing and creating her own jewelry. She began creating intricate handwoven and crocheted necklaces out of gold and silver wire, allowing her creativity to soar while incorporating the skills she had learned from her uncle. She decided to forgo a promising career in finance and pursue her dream of designing her own jewelry.

“The road has been one of pure entrepreneurship; hardship, sacrifice, long hours, risk & reward. All of these I have endured, and I have absorbed everything the journey has taught me.”

With her showroom now located in Denver, Colorado, Nina is centrally located, and closer for her frequent trips to her design studio in Vietnam - not to mention the inspiration of the Rocky Mountains.

About the stones:

Genuine Turquoise: Turquoise is an opaque blue-to-green mineral, technically a hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminum. It is available in numerous shades of blue and green colors, depending on its origin. The rarest and most beautiful is the robin’s egg blue variety from the now-defunct Sleeping Beauty mine in Arizona. Turquoise is a staple of Native American jewelry and some of it is highly collectible and rare. Some varieties of turquoise, like Kingman Turquoise, display black spiderweb veins (referred to as matrix).

Metaphysical Properties: Turquoise can balance the mood and be thought of as an oasis of calm. It is a highly sacred stone for the Native American community; the Navajo revere it as a stone of good luck and protection that also represents power, status, and luxury. More generally, the stone is life-giving, restorative, and a powerful tool for recharging your physical and spiritual energy.

Origin: Iran, the United States (Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, and Nevada), China, Afghanistan, Australia, India, Chile
