Nina Nguyen, 2013 Special Designer Judge of the SJTA & SCAD Student Design Competition

March 29, 2013

For years Nina Nguyen Designs has been showcasing organic and natural jewelry at The Atlanta Jewelry Show hosted by Southern Jewelry Travel Association (SJTA) Atlanta, Georgia. This year at the beautiful Cobb Galleria, Nina Nguyen was featured in the show’s Point of View Gallery. Nina’s history attending SJTA and unique design perspective prompted her to be asked to be a special guest judge for the 2013 Savannah College of Art and Designs (SCAD) & SJTA Annual Student Design Competition, sponsored by Stuller Inc.
SCAD holds the largest jewelry faculty in the US of higher learning education and supplies the students with a 10,100-square-foot facility full of technology for jewelry making. Working with partner SJTA, SCAD’s annual competition is designed to help increase the quality of students’ work while simulating new and innovated designs. The esteemed judging panel was comprised of jewelry store owners, gallery owners, magazine editors, and special guest designers. Each judge is carefully selected for the panel to cover every aspect an ambitious designer needs to consider in the design process.
Nina Nguyen has design running in her blood; as a youth growing up in war torn Vietnam, Nina loved helping her uncle, a goldsmith, at his jewelry casting foundry. Nina never stopped designing jewelry.  As the special designer guest judge, Nina was honored to be a part of this educational event and to pass on her knowledge and expertise.
The competition included 4 categories, Rings, Brooches, Bracelets, and Necklaces. With so many beautiful and creative designs it was tough for the judges to select only 3 winners for each category.
Check out the winners and their one of kind designs below!
